Jack grew up in St. Petersburg, Florida, before heading to Virginia to receive his B.S. in Biochemistry from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech). There, he first gained research experience in molecular biology studying DNA and protein interactions between Herpes Simplex Virus and neuronal cells. Jack also worked in a computational biochemistry lab, studying the dynamics of proteins in response to temperature. As a mentor in the biochemistry department at Virginia Tech, he guided young students on their path through college.
